3 Reasons to Never Take Another Job

Cash Rich… Lifestyle Poor

  1. You’re right Corbett. The “What” is the real driving force.

  2. This is amazing. I just checked out your site after listening to one of Pat Flynn’s podcasts where you were a co-host. You got great stuff man thanks for sharing!

  3. Corbett,

In less than 4 minutes you said a lot of good, useful information. What I mean is that these videos are only improving.

You nailed it on the head in that when we are unhappy being employed by someone we just want to read into the how. Rather its the what and whys that should bring us naturally to the how.

I truly think that the people that just want the mechanics first aren’t set out to truly be self-employed. They are just in a state of unhappiness, see what’s trending, and try to hop on. In the end, they would be happy at a different non self-employed job. Why? Because their whats and whys are tied to the fundamentals of a job description rather than creating one.

  4. True. i discovered this the hard way. Always searching for a how, but now that I focused in the what I have been able to move forward with my projects and getting closer to really be able to make a living without problems on my own.

It takes time and a lot of effort, but if you love the “what” then you won’t regret all the effort spent on achieving your self employment.

Thanks for this Video Corbett. Sharing around. :)

  5. Corbett ~
I have found that the how just comes by doing. Clarity emerges through action, not contemplation. The what, like you said, has been with you the whole time. It’s what people have thanked you for, have befriended you because of, and what gets you jazzed to learn more about.

Thanks for being part of our new age of transformation. I love having people who are going through this with me, with hands and hearts out to help.

  6. Andrew Rowley

Dude, I’ve said it before and I will say it again…

    …. You are the man!

    Great video!!!

  7. Love this Corbett. This screams Simon Sinek’s work and book: Start With Why. So powerful. If you have a big enough and compelling enough reason to do what you do, I assure you you will find an audience to support you and you will be able to build a business around it. It all comes back to Why. I interviewed Simon on Monday for Live Your Legend and his ideas had me super fired up. Can’t wait to get it live!

“People don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it….”

    • Thank you for reminding me about that book of his. Simon Sinek is great. His presentation at the 99% conference certainly got me thinking.

    • I was going to mention Simon’s TED speech on the topic as well. (I actually didn’t know there was a book, so thanks, Scott!) I worked with a business coach recently (without any sense of what business I wanted to start) and she began with questions that helped me get to my core mission statement and why I cared about what I wanted to do, and it’s really helping me articulate my plan. It was way more valuable than any marketing or sales or legal advice could have been at the time.

      Great video, Corbett!

  8. Excellent introduction to the topic… I love your work, thanks for what you do!

  9. WHAT is the right question. I took me many years of hating what i was doing before i made the change to self-employment. Being an freelance illustrator is not easy but I realized that the majority of people can’t draw, and I could. It wasn’t fleeting or merely an ideal, but I really could draw well, and professionally. I took the leap and haven’t looked back. It helps that my wife is insanely supportive and really believes in me. I recommend any one with the ‘entrepreneur bug’ take the leap. Work hard for yourself.

  10. I was introduced to your site through people I follow. Your site is nothing short of amazing. Your material is so in line with what I believe its crazy, and amazing to know that there are people that think like me out there!

Just as you mentioned I think the ‘how’ doesn’t really matter once the ‘what’ has been discovered. I think I have finally found that ‘what’ and will be pursuing this passion. Currently I’m happy to know I’m going for it no matter what happens. Whatever the outcome I will learn from this adventure and that fulfillment nothing can compare to!

  11. Cesar

As someone who asked ‘how’ a few times in that last post, I thank you for this video.

I think you’re right. I have to go within and find out what I’m passionate about and let that lead me …

Great video that I’ll be sharing. Thanks again! – Cesar

  12. This is probably the most profound statement ever for those looking to make their own way. Too many people make stupid businesses in the vein of “spam” – it’s useless but it makes a bit of money. If people focussed on what they loved instead, there would be so much more benefit to society – and to each individual too.

I just remembered a quote that I actually use in my own email signature…

“Don’t worry about what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive and do that. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” — Howard Thurman
