Video Update: Road Trip, Lifestyle eBook, Three-Month Thank You!

Hi everybody. Welcome to my first video update! I wanted to try something different with a video post here at Free Pursuits, so let me know in the comments if you like this format. I haven’t shot a video before, but aside from being a little nervous I think it turned out OK. I’ll also transcribe most of what’s in the video below.

Road Trip Home

Sadly, the time has finally come. The Mexican part of our sabbatical has come to an end. We’ll be leaving tomorrow for a 4 to 5 week road trip back home to San Francisco.

The past six months have been truly life-changing. I would highly recommend a sabbatical to anyone looking to make some meaningful life changes. I feel so much more purpose-driven now, and am really looking forward to working on my new lifestyle design over the next couple of years. I’ll write more about what I learned most from this trip in an upcoming post.

Our drive will take my wife and me up the west coast of Mexico, though Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, and finally back to California. We should get back to San Francisco by the 8th of August, almost exactly 7 months after we left back in January. Here’s a map of our return trip (all 4200 miles of it):

We’re looking forward to catching up with friends and family up in the Pacific Northwest. We’ll be stopping for about a week each in Portland, Seattle and Vancouver B.C. While up in Vancouver, we’ll be headed out sailing for a week to the Gulf Islands with some new friends we met in Mexico. It’s going to be a fabulous time.

While we’re on this trip, I’ll still be updating Free Pursuits on a regular basis. I’ll also be bringing you more great guest posts and interviews. In particular, we have an awesome guest post coming up this week from Chris Garrett, as well as interviews with Chris Brogan and Jody and Cali of the Results-Only Work Environment movement.

Lifestyle eBook (Untitled)

I also wanted to let you know that I’ve started writing my first eBook. The book will be about the lifestyle design revolution that people are joining around the world. I’ll publish it here sometime over the Summer.

There’s so much to say about lifestyle design and how it can change your life. I just can’t fit it all into blog posts. This guide will go into more depth about how people are making their ultimate lifestyle dreams come true through creativity and technology.

Three-Month Thank You!

And finally, I wanted to thank everyone who has helped me make this blog a success since it launched just over three months ago. I’ve been very fortunate to have connected with so many great people over Twitter, through the survey, in blog comments, email, telephone and even some in person. Thanks for all the support!

Until next time, happy travels!

Are You Putting Off Life Until Later?

  1. I like the video format, you’re a natural! Keep ’em coming!

    • Thanks, Colin. It was fun. I didn’t have access to any editing software, so I had to do it in one continuous take. It took me a few tries until I was finally happy with it.

  2. Hey Corbett,

Congrats on your milestone. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to hearing about your trip home and reading your ebook

  3. I’m loving the blog. I accidentally made my way here today via Chris Guillebeau’s tweet of the ’21 Tips for Getting 500 Subscribers’ post. I subscribed right after reading it.

The video was really good, too. I agree with Colin, you’re a natural with the format and I’m looking forward to ‘meatier’ video posts. Looking forward to the book, too. Good luck!

    • Thanks very much. I’m looking forward to doing “meatier” video posts as well, but thought I’d get my feet wet with something easy. Thanks for reading!

  4. Hi Corbett,

It is great to to see you on video. It makes it much easier to put a personality to all the fantastic work you have been doing. I hope you do more.

Have a safe trip back and I look forward to your ebook!

    • Hey John, I enjoyed seeing you in the video interview at Viralogy last week. It is nice to put a face with the writing, isn’t it? Are you planning any video posts at Jet Set Citizen?

  5. I don’t recall where exactly I heard of your blog. Either Chris G or Lea, but I subscribed immediately, and have enjoyed the information here since. You provide plenty of useful information as it is, and I also like you because you are obviously somewhat insane, since you’re choosing July to drive through the Southwest :-)

I look forward to the ebook and more.

    • Hopefully our air conditioner doesn’t break, right? We’ve been in Mexico long enough that we’re getting used to the heat a little. Plus, the lower humidity will be nice. Thanks for the kind words, James!

  6. I came across your blog today and love it! As a Life Sabbatical and Long-term Travel Coach, my mission is to empower my clients to get off the couch and on the plane so that they can take time off and truly enjoy life just the way you and your wife are right now. Thank you for spreading some inspiration around! P.S. I am based in San Francisco so if you plan to do any speaking about your journeys when you get back, I would love to know about it.

    • I like your mission, Tara. People definitely don’t take enough time off. I’ll let you know when I plan to be at any events around San Francisco.

  7. Hey I like the video. I just recently found your blog and I’m regretting not finding it earlier. Good luck as you continue working on the e-book, looking forward to reading it!
